Real Madrid can take a seismic step in winning La Liga if they beat Barcelona tomorrow at the Nou Camp. And as Zizou proved last season, Madrid can definitely win, and they are probably slight favorites to do so.
Barcelona have not been playing well, and have not had the same swagger as they did last season. Madrid on the other hand, have not yet lost a game and look like a team who are on a mission to not lose and are honed in and focused on what they do.
One team has a plan, the other does not.
One team is always winning, the other isn't.
So Zidane and his boys have to go into the Nou Camp looking to control the game, but more importantly to win the game. Not to walk away happy with a draw, but to take three points and keep focused on the road to reclaiming La Liga.
Before the game, people predicted Barcelona to win, and thought it would expose the inexperienced Zidane.
But even with a man down, Zidane was able to orchestrate his team to pick out Barcelona, use the space and make the most out of their chances and clinical forward line.
It may not have lead them to the La Liga title, but it was the foundation for the Champions League crown and where they find themselves now.
As we come into this game again, Madrid are in a different position now and are leading the league by six points, undefeated whilst their rivals have not looked good. I have to stress that. Barcelona have regressed since last year, and have been far too reliant on amazing talent just showing up and getting it done.
So this is a hugely important game and Zidane must recognise that.
Barcelona have been a defensive shambles, and have shown that when you spread the ball around well, and those passes are crisp, they find it very hard to cope and get really exposed. Just as Man City and Real Sociedad showed.
Zidane has to go for it in this game and use the brilliance of Modric to control the game, as well as Benzema's ability to get between the lines and bring in the marauding runs of Carvajal and Marcelo. If they can do this, Madrid can really win this game and then....the La Liga will start looking very different.
But never, ever underestimate Messi and Barcelona...
