Barcelona Need another Dani Alves NOT Coutinho

Rumor going around the campfire is Barcelona are interested in Phillipe Coutinho and their ambassador, the legend, the immortal Ronaldinho is the one who has come out and revealed this.

So everyone will say this is a great signing for Barcelona and they should do all they can to nab him from the Klopp army. Well when you allow your excitement to pipe down, and actually look at what Barcelona have, and what they need; then you'll see this isn't the signing they need.

Coutinho is a wonderful offensive player to watch, when he's on his game. If you give the little guy space, he will punish you, with his acceleration, balance, and ability to strike the ball cleanly from long range.

In a time where number 10's are so important to how teams play, Coutinho would be a player most managers would want. And you have to put him in the conversation of the very best in that position.

So when you think of how attacking Barcelona are, it would make sense they want to add more to their offensive artillery in the form of the Brazilian.

Well, the issues Barcelona have aren't about their attack. They have the best frontline in club football with Iniesta who at his age, can still school you with his insane ability to drift with the ball glued to his feet. Getting goals or being creative is not a problem Barcelona have had for a long time.

It's about that Brazilian wing back.

Dani Alves leaving hurt Barcelona. That is the area in which they should be looking. Not only did they lose out on the defensive work he did, but how he expanded the scope of Barcelona's attack was what makes him one of the best right backs in the world.

Barcelona have been missing a certain fourth dimension to their attack as everything has been put on the weight of the three-headed horse, without there being an Alves to offer a different dimension.

Also, Coutinho won't necessarily flourish in Barcelona's system. I don't see how he gets into the team when the South American trio are all fit, because Coutinho's best position is the one occupied by Messi.

Even if Coutinho does find his way in the first eleven because of injuries to others, the way in which Barcelona play isn't the same as Liverpool. There is more passing involved without the frenetic thrust and speed that Klopp prefers.

Coutinho is far more at home in the way Klopp wants to play, because he's the kind of player that like to play it quick, and is more direct in his play. Barcelona sometimes play that way but they are more varied, and far less tunnel-visioned in their offense.

I would advise Coutinho to remain at Liverpool and keep working with the most exciting and exuberant coach in the world. He will improve under the blond German, which is what a player of his age should still be looking for.

Meanwhile, Enrique should be looking to get another great right wing back, because they need to cut down that lead on Real Madrid in the league and they cannot take PSG for granted when they face off in a few months.
