Is Cristiano Ronaldo's Time Finally Up?

Two back-to-back losses, and two pretty bad performances by the man who they claim is "the best footballer on the planet."

Cristiano may have enjoyed individual success with his tuxedos and personal accolades, but where it matters, on the football pitch, even some of his supporters are beginning to turn against him.

As it is in football, the tide can always change. Two bad games this week, could be a match-winning performance next week. Form comes and goes, and Cristiano could very well get back to hitting the back of the net when the next game comes round.

But something tells me that sooner rather than later, people will begin to see why I have been right about my assessment on this man. And why it's been very dangerous for the integrity of the sport to tout him as its best player.

I saw footage of his performance against Celta Vigo, and it made for rather uncomfortable viewing. Whether it was misplaced passes, dribbling that went nowhere, never going forward; instead opting for the sideways or backwards ball.

Terrible.

What makes it worse is after all the articles about him being the greatest ever and all the praise that was lavished upon him; to now come out and give such a wretched showing, makes those writers look bad and makes the sport itself look worse.

I've always said that if you take the goals away from Cristiano, he's a nobody. He doesn't have the explosion anymore at his age, and his skills have diminished over time. So there really isn't much he contributes to a team if he doesn't put the ball in the fishnet.

Just imagine if you took away Robben or Messi's goals? They would still have their dribbling and their ability to influence the game in which they can beat players, or produce killer balls for their teammates.

As I said, Cristiano could hit a hat-trick in the next game and all will be forgiven. But there will soon come a time where he won't be able to do that anymore.

There will be more and more of these performances, and as they say, it's best to retire at the top of the game rather than limp out at the very rung of it.
